shamrock Syracuse St. Patrick’s 2011 Parade Theme

The Blessings of Irish Wit and Wisdom

We welcome you to partake in the “Blessings of Irish Wit and Wisdom.” As you know this is the theme this year for the 29th annual Syracuse St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 12th, 2011. As we strive to enlighten you with endless words of wisdom our hopes are to provide you with the inspiration to build the grandest floats our Parade has ever seen.

Remember now, that everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day, or at least wishes they were at this time of year. So, we hope that everyone enjoys the days to come. Drop me a line and feel free to share some Irish trivia or a personal story of interest. And speaking of stories-well, the Irish are great story-tellers. There are wonderful traditions and many special stories in relation to our Irish heritage. Hope to hear from all of you and looking forward to seeing you... And please consider attending a few of the many events and do feel free to say "hello." So keep those Irish eyes a smiling for there is a new adventure coming your way as we approach Parade Day. And let me remind you that you do not need to be a poet to spread the joys of Irish wit and wisdom, just simply be yourself and put your best expression forward. Hope you’ve got your Irish on-I do...let the Irish Wit and Wisdom begin....

Just a wee bit of wisdom to get you thinking:

A Friend Forever
The Irish love their family and their friends. Loyalty and a tenacious commitment to loved ones are the hallmarks of Irish relationships. Take a few moments to contemplate that great wonderful gift: enduring friendships.

-Better the coldness of a friend than the sweetness of an enemy.
Irish Saying

-A friend's eye is a good mirror.
Irish Proverb

-Forsake not a friend of many years
for the acquaintance of the day.
Irish Saying

-May your right hand be stretched out in friendship
and never in want.
Irish Blessing

-A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he who finds one
finds a treasure. A faithful friend is beyond price, no sum can balance his worth. A faithful friend is a life-saving remedy, such as he who fears God behaves accordingly and his friend will be like himself.
