“Tir na nÓg - Land of Eternal Youth”
This year we celebrate the eternal youth of the Irish! Come with us while we enter the gateway to Tir na nÓg, Ireland’s mythical land of youth, where the last generation of gods and goddesses to rule Ireland were possessed with magical abilities and great skills in the Arts. Through history, the people of Tir na nÓg became known as the Celtic fairies we read about in ancient myths - no one grew old or became ill.
We salute our youth and our skilled artists, writers, and the craftsmen and women who depict our Irish culture and heritage to further the education of all in our community.
We treasure the myths of Fion Mac Cumihal, his son, Oisin, his lover Niamh, and the band of heroes, the Fianna, who possessed enormous courage, strength and skill. We all know eternal youth is for fairies and mortals, but ‘tis the stuff of which dreams are made.
So we dream on as we celebrate our Irish Mythology with the Legend of Tir na nÓg - the Land of Eternal Youth as the theme of the 2009 Syracuse St. Patrick’s Parade. |
