shamrock Syracuse St. Patrick’s Parade Grand Marshal

This delightful gentleman was born in Old Town Maine. He was the 11th of 12 children - and two of his brothers became priests. He was an air traffic controller in England during the Korean War with the Air Force. After the Air Force he worked in a coffin factory - and for fun he coached a little league baseball team & went on to win the State Championship. Someone mentioned to him maybe he should coach for a living, so he went to Springfield College (which was known as the cradle of coaches) on the GI Bill & played football there. He received from Masters Degree from Illinois. Coach Mac

After several coaching jobs, he arrived in Syracuse in 1981. He remained in Syracuse from 1981 to 1991 as head coach of the Syracuse Football Team. This year, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame, the first from Maine, and one of ONLY 184 coaches EVER. I am so proud and pleased to announce that our Grand Marshal for the 2010 Parade is none other that Coach Dick MacPherson.
